My name is Holden Bucher, and I live in Bremerton, WA with my girlfriend Shannon Hunt. We are both 32 years old and share our home with our precious cat, Luigi, and his adopted brother, Yoshi. Luigi is a Maine Coon mix, 8 years and 8 months old, and has always been a healthy, happy companion. Luigi and Yoshi share a very strong bond—they love each other deeply, often playing together, grooming one another, and eating side by side. When Luigi was hospitalized, Yoshi went on a hunger strike because his brother wasn’t there to eat with him. It’s clear that when they are apart, they truly miss each other.
Just recently, our world was turned upside down when Luigi began losing weight rapidly. After several vet visits, he was diagnosed with diabetes and, almost immediately, went into diabetic ketoacidosis. He was hospitalized for two days, and the next day, we had to rush him back to the vet because he developed additional complications: pancreatitis, a hematoma in his bladder, and internal swelling in multiple areas.
We returned home with a strict feeding and insulin injection schedule, medication, antibiotics, and prescription food to help Luigi recover. The past week has been incredibly difficult for us—mentally, emotionally, and financially. Luigi has always been a healthy cat, never showing any signs of illness until this past weekend. The vet bills have quickly added up, and this unexpected situation has put a strain on us. We are doing everything we can to make sure Luigi gets the care he needs to continue living a happy and healthy life, with Yoshi by his side.
I don’t normally ask for help, and I take pride in being able to care for myself and my loved ones. But right now, we could really use some support. Please keep Luigi in your thoughts and prayers. If you are able to donate, know that anything helps and we will be forever grateful and thankful for your kindness. Your support will help us cover Luigi’s medical expenses and give him the best chance at recovery.
