I am running this for a good friend and co-worker: Luigi and his wife of 32 years, Carol, who is battling cancer again.
Luigi is one of the nicest, most genuine guys you will ever meet. He would literally take the shirt off his back for you if you need it. He is so positive and upbeat, always walking around with a big smile and a joke to tell. He’s the funniest, especially with his thick Italian accent. It’s the best and will never fail to put a smile on anyone's face. I wish I could share a picture of him and his wife, but he’s old school - flip phone and all.
Unfortunately, he has been dealing with a lot the last couple of years.. but keeps smiling the best he can. His wife Carol was diagnose with breast cancer and beat it in 2017. However, this past weekend (late July) she was diagnosed with Leukemia. Due to COVID and other precautions, she is not able to come home. She needs to start treatment immediately and will be in the hospital for a minimum of 6 weeks.
All she asks of her husband in these scary times is that he not leave her side. Luigi being the great human and husband that he is, has been there from the second they let him. He’ll remain until they kick him out.
With all the stress and heartbreak this is causing the family, the last thing I want them to worry about is paying their monthly bills (and the medical bills to follow) while they are both out of work.
When I asked him for permission to share his story he began to cry out of emotion, he is beyond thankful for anything anyone is able to give.
Anything helps! I appreciate you taking the time to read this. I know these are tough economic times.
PS I will work on getting a better picture but … flip phone, lol! I stole a zoom-in of the work-family picture in the cafeteria.
