Lucy is a young, rescue dog in need of orthopedic surgery on her paw. This sweet girl was adopted as a rescue last year and has been a huge joy ever since. She loves to run around, visit the dog park to socialize and sniff around on every new trail we visit. She has so much energy and life but is limited by her paw. Lucy currently has an angular limb deformity which was caused by an injury to her growth plate as puppy. This caused her paw to grow sideways, which you can see in her photos. Now that she is fully grown, she requires orthopedic surgery by a veterinary specialist. Her condition is very uncommon, so, the procedure she requires is rare and costly.
Coverage for her procedure has been declined by the pet insurance company despite many dispute attempts and time spent on the phone with their representatives. As pet owners, it’s important to be responsible and do the best we can to provide the best care for our companions. However, unfortunately, my family and I have also been met with recent financial hardship as we've experienced a sudden and unexpected death of a family member, as well as an emergency medical procedure for a different family member.
Other than her paw, our vet has shared that Lucy is a very healthy dog. Lucy loves to play and be outside, but her mobility is currently limited as she walks with a limp and cannot walk for prolonged periods of time without needing to stop or be carried. Her condition is expected to only worsen with time. Lucy is not yet even a year and a half years old yet so she still has a very long life left to live. She has so much energy and life but is restricted by her paw. If Lucy is unable to receive proper care, she may never be able to walk on her paw at all in the future.
In addition to her energetic and social nature, Lucy also has a soft, intuitive side. Lucy has provided major emotional support and companionship during very difficult times. She is loyal, intelligent, sweet and has so much love to share. All the funds raised would go towards Lucy’s procedure, including the surgery, aftercare, and medication.
Often times, it can be challenging and hard to ask for help but for Lucy’s well-being, I’ve tried to set those feelings aside in order to help her get the care she deserves. With the support of other dog lovers and passionate pet owners, they’ve encouraged me to not feel shameful in reaching out for help. Anything helps, and I would be so grateful to anyone that donates or spreads the word about Lucy to help keep her happy and healthy. Any small donation or sharing of this campaign would be so deeply appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read about Lucy.
Additional Note:
I understand the doubt that may be present for online fundraisers such as these. Therefore, for transparency, I am sharing the quote given to me by the animal hospital for orthopedic surgery for her angular limb deformity. This animal hospital was highly recommended, and the staff have been very kind and informative on how they believe treatment should be conducted.
I rounded up the fundraiser goal as gofundme takes a percentage of the funds raised and to also account for the medication, physiotherapy/rehab and additional follow-up appointments which were not included in the estimate.
The $8000 fundraiser goal is an ambitious goal to show donors and those interested in Lucy’s story all the expenses that are involved in her journey and recovery. Regardless of if the goal is met, I plan to ensure that Lucy gets her surgery and will take on whatever financial responsibilities that entails. However, it is a lot more feasible with the help of those who choose to kindly support and donate to Lucy’s cause. I believe that pet owners bear responsibility for their animals physically and financially, however, my family and I have been dealt with a lot of hardship within a short time frame unexpectedly. Hence why I’ve reached out to the community for support. This action was difficult to do given the pride that I try to hold myself accountable to but with the encouragement of others, I created a page for Lucy.
I hope that provides more context as to where the donations are going and the intent behind the fundraiser. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to read and learn about Lucy!

Update: Thank you everyone so much for the support! I can’t believe how much has been raised and am so incredibly grateful. After receiving lots of suggestions and feedback from community members and experienced dog owners, and doing extensive personal outreach and research, I now have Lucy’s surgery booked! I have adjusted and decreased the goal for this fundraiser to match the new quote that I’ve received from a different specialist hospital where I will be taking Lucy. I want to be transparent about Lucy’s surgery process and I am so appreciative of those who are invested in her story and journey. I will continue to post updates about her recovery process.
