We are raising funds to cover medical expenses for two of our dogs Lucy and Eco who both suffer from Canine Leishmaniosis .
We are Ana and Eric, and for years we've quietly opened our home in rural Andalusia to the animals that others overlook — the abandoned, the broken, the forgotten. We don’t run a shelter, and we’re not funded by any organization. We simply do what we can, when we can, for those with no one else. The dogs and cats no one wants? They stay with us.
Our goal is to cover part of Lucy and Eco's annual costs. We will use funds donated to pay for Lucy and Eco's medication, special dietray requirements and veterinary visits. We estimate that the annual cost of care for Lucy and Eco is around €2500.
Lucy recently had surgery to remove a small growth in her bladder. The cost of surgery, medication and related was just over €500.
Today, we’re asking for your help — not for us, but for two of our most beloved rescues: Lucy and Eco.
Lucy: From Forgotten to Fearless
Lucy was rescued from a rural finca where she had been tied to a tree for the first six months of her life, barely able to move. When authorities intervened, she was one of dozens of neglected dogs — and she was nearly euthanized because she couldn’t be socialized. No one could get through to her. No one, except Ana.
Lucy spent weeks curled under a table, too afraid to eat or move. But Ana, known for her gift with “lost cause” dogs, patiently won her trust. Now, five years later, Lucy is the first to greet visitors with a wagging tail and a gentle nudge. She is pure love. But love alone isn't enough.
Lucy with Eco:
Lucy suffers from Canine Leishmaniasis, a chronic disease that requires:
Daily medication
Liver-supporting veterinary food
Routine blood tests and vet checkups every 6 months
Eco: The Sweetheart Who Survived
Eco was found abandoned in a ditch, shot and left for dead. His leg was shattered. A bullet remains near his spine — too close for safe removal. He limped into our lives through a local shelter that knew of Ana’s reputation with deeply traumatized animals.
Thanks to the extraordinary compassion of veterinary students at the University of Córdoba, Eco received surgery and pins to stabilize his leg — all free of charge. Today, he walks, plays, and showers love on every kitten we rescue. He is our gentle soul, our feline nanny, our warrior with a heart of gold.
Eco with bandaged pins in his hind leg:
Eco with Serafino ( who was left at our door on a winter day - he immediately snuggled up to Eco and still seeks him out for afternoon snoozes?
Like Lucy, Eco also suffers from Leishmaniasis, though we caught it early. He’s stable but needs:
Daily medication
Specialized food
Regular testing and monitoring
Why We Need Help
The costs of caring for two chronically ill dogs are significant and growing. Between vet visits, diagnostic tests, and special food, we're stretched thin. We're committed to Lucy and Eco for life — but right now, we need your help to give them the healthy, happy life they deserve.
Every donation — no matter how small — helps us cover their care and ensures that Lucy and Eco can continue to thrive. Your support will go directly toward:
Veterinary appointments
Blood tests and monitoring
Prescription meds
Specialized nutrition
If you can't donate, please share their story. It truly makes a difference.
With gratitude and hope,
Ana & Eric
