In March 2025, our family bought what we thought would be our dream fixer-upper. We moved in that May, excited to make it our home. Just two weeks later, our identical twin daughters, Lucy and Josie, were diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukemia.
Since then, every part of our lives has been devoted to their survival. They are just 9 months old, spending most of their days in treatment at Seattle Children’s Hospital. When they’re able to come home, we desperately need it to be a safe place for their fragile immune systems.
But instead, we’ve learned that our house is filled with dangers:
• Black mold in the bathrooms
• Galvanized pipes contaminating our drinking water
• Knob and tube wiring that poses a fire hazard
• Poor air quality and heating unsafe for immunocompromised children
Our contractor has told us the only way forward is a full gut renovation.
We are already facing overwhelming medical bills and never imagined that our home itself would put our daughters’ health at risk. We do have a GoFundMe set up, but the scope of this project is beyond what we can manage alone.
We are reaching out for help—whether that’s donations, sponsorships, or in-kind support from builders, contractors, or suppliers. Every bit of help will bring us closer to creating the safe and healthy home Lucy and Josie need.
This is more than a renovation. It’s about giving our daughters the best chance to heal.
Ways to support:
• Donate directly to our GoFundMe
• Share our story with your community
• Connect us with anyone who may be able to help with materials, labor, or funding
From our family to yours, thank you for standing with us.
With gratitude,
Mallory & Leif Carlson
