Save Lucy — A Trans Woman Facing Federal Charges for Tesla Vandalism
Our 77-year-old mother sat and watched agents from TWELVE police cars, sheriff’s cars, and ATF vehicles stood around, guarding more officers inside as they searched for evidence.
My sister Lucy - a trans woman with purple hair, two cats, and a Nintendo Switch - had been arrested and charged with vandalizing a Tesla dealership.
Once she was released from state custody on bail, Federal agents IMMEDIATELY re-arrested her for the same charges. And then threw her in jail with the male prison population.
This horrifying practice is, apparently, the standard at the Federal level. It was terrifying for Lucy, and terrifying for us.
Remember, she was charged with vandalism. Excuse me, “one count of malicious destruction of property”.
So, we’re fighting the charges, quite literally fighting for her life, and asking for your help.
Who is Lucy?
Lucy is my little sister. I’m Jen. I know you don’t know either of us, but I’m trying to introduce us as best I can.
Actually, you might have seen her in the news. There was a small rash of vandalism on Tesla dealerships nationwide earlier this year, and Lu’s arrest made some nationwide headlines. Some people want 15 minutes of fame, but Lucy never, ever has.
I’ve known Lu her entire life. She’s a loving, intelligent woman who wouldn’t hurt a soul. She has never been arrested before this.
Lucy is on the autism spectrum, and suffers from depression and anxiety. She plays tabletop games with family, cares tenderly for her cat Pez and our late brother’s cat Jinx. Before the arrests, she’d started volunteering with a group that helps feed homeless folks in Boulder.
What happened?
Like I said: Lucy was arrested and charged with vandalizing a Tesla dealership.
And that somehow is being escalated into a federal case—literally. The current U.S. President, while he was closely aligned with Tesla’s CEO, had publicly called for Tesla vandals to be sent to El Salvador. In other words, he wants my sister - a homegrown American citizen - illegally extradited and sent to another country, as a brutal punishment.
Like so, so many things happening right now, this feels absolutely insane. And like so many things happening right now, it’s up to us to step in.
Help me save my sister.
Why should I help?
This is a legal fight, yes. Far more than that, though, this is about Lucy’s safety and humanity.
Lucy is a trans woman on the autism spectrum. She is being targeted for political reasons. These are WILD things to have to say, much less to live through.
Every single donation - whether $100, or $10, or $1 - is a vote of support for Lucy, for queer folk, for neurodiverse folk.
And more practically, there are still mounting expenses:
- Bail and court-related costs
- Transportation to and from court
- Mental health support
- Basic living expenses while she navigates this legal battle
We’re so incredibly grateful for Lu’s wonderful public defenders. They are why we’re trying to raise $12,000 instead of 20 times that amount.
Please help me keep her safe, supported, and stable during this absolutely outrageous, terrifying time. Donate whatever amount you can...we appreciate it more than you know.
Thank you.
