Help Lucky Dog Books in Oak Cliff

My wife and I founded a couple general used bookstores in  Dallas and Mesquite, Texas over 40 years ago as Paperbacks Plus. After folks had asked us for years to do another location in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, we finally did about 6 years ago at the same time that we moved the other Dallas location to a different part of East Dallas and extended the name of our website to the two Dallas locations as Lucky Dog Books.

With the help of our creative staff, and our neighbors bringing us great books, movies and music to recycle, Lucky Dog Books and Paperbacks Plus have become wonderfully diverse bookstores. They make enjoying all these things so very much more affordable with a trade-in system that lets one pay for half of purchases with the store credit from recycling.

But we have run into a lot of ups and downs in getting the bookstores to this point. Apart from the general trends in retail bookselling that we have somehow been able to weather over the last 20 years that included the rise of the internet, the improvement in cable TV and the introduction of ebooks, we have had to move the Dallas locations three times in the last 3 years.

We cannot wait any longer to ask for help to raise the money necessary to get caught up on the obligations that all of our own funds have not been able to meet. These include mostly back rent and property taxes. And an amount for working capital going forward to let more readers know about the wonders of this bookstore and  to act as a contingency fund for the unexpected.

We are NOT asking for "donations". When you contribute to this campaign, you will receive one or more gift certificates for the full value of your contribution that you can use yourself if you are in the area; you can give to family or friends who live around here; or you can donate for use in a variety of ways.

Due to recent changes in the privacy guidelines that gofundme has implemented which restrict our access to your info, when you make a contribution, please send an email to us with your mailing address so that we can mail your gift certificate(s) to you: [email redacted]. Please put gofundme in the subject line.

Or, instead of going through gofundme, you can go to the page at our website for Gift Certificates and make the same purchase there which is processed by Paypal (you do not need to have an account with them) and we will include your thank you bonus just like here: http://www.luckydogbooks.com/gift_certificates.html.

Please see the attached video of the Oak Cliff bookstore to visualize what you will be supporting. And visit our website to learn more about us and for more info on this campaign as it becomes available: www.luckydogbooks.com .

Thank you for your consideration and hopefully for your help.
