Help Lucie Stangroom Get a Life-Saving 2nd Kidney Transplant

Donation protected

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

I’m reaching out to ask for your help for my dear friend Lucie Stangroom, a strong, compassionate woman who is now fighting for her life.

Lucie is 50 years old and urgently needs a second kidney transplant. Her story is one of resilience and quiet strength, but now she’s facing challenges no one should face alone.

Lucie’s battle with chronic illness began early. She was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at just 14, and later with fibromyalgia at 22, lifelong conditions that have shaped her daily life with constant pain, fatigue, and hospital visits.

Then, at 19, she was diagnosed with kidney failure. At 23, she received a living donor kidney transplant from her sister, a gift that gave her almost three decades of independence, purpose, and service to others.

Now, that kidney is failing. Doctors have told her it is functioning at only 10%, and she urgently needs a second transplant. But with her sister unable to donate again—and as Lucie's only remaining relative—she must now rely on the deceased donor transplant list, a wait that can take years, time she simply may not have.

Over the past 18 months, Lucie has suffered devastating symptoms of kidney rejection:
• Dangerously high blood pressure, sending her to the ER multiple times
• Whole-body swelling so severe it required emergency fluid removal
• An enlarged heart from the strain of her failing kidneys
• Constant medication changes as doctors search for treatments that might slow her decline

The toll on her health has also taken away her independence. After working for 35 years, Lucie can no longer work and is now on long-term disability (LTD), which covers less than 20% of her medical expenses and daily needs.

Her financial situation is dire, with bills piling up for past year and ongoing;
• Life-saving medications and treatments
• Rent, utilities, and food
• Uber rides to Toronto General Hospital, where her transplant specialists are based
• Grocery deliveries, as she is no longer able to shop or drive

Lucie has now been homebound for almost a year, isolated from the world she once served so openly.

Despite all of this, Lucie remains in incredible spirits. She has always gone out of her way to help others—friends, neighbors, even strangers—simply to brighten their day. Her selflessness has touched countless lives, and now, she needs our help in return.

How You Can Help?

We are raising funds to help Lucie afford:
• Urgently needed medications and transplant-related care
• Safe, accessible transportation to medical appointments
• Basic needs like food, housing, and utilities
• Support during and after her eventual kidney transplant

No donation is too small. Every dollar counts, and every share of this campaign can make a world of difference. If you can’t donate, please share Lucie’s story with others who might be able to help.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of her journey to survive—and to live. Pray for her to find a donor soon and a safe recovery. God bless.

With gratitude,
