Lucas Hernandez is a caring, selfless, intelligent 9 year old boy who loves his family, dancing, and double double cheeseburgers. He’s in third grade and competes in Jiu-Jitsu, plays baseball, and loves playing handball at recess.
In October of this year, Lucas had began feeling debilitating joint pain and fatigue. Jeannette, following her motherly instincts, sought medical attention. After several weeks of testing the family received heartbreaking news. On November 21st Lucas was diagnosed with AML.
Acute Myeloid Leukemia is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow with excess immature white blood cells. AML progresses rapidly, with myeloid cells interfering with the production of normal white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets. Treatment depends on the stage; including chemotherapy, other drug therapy, and bone marrow transplant. His battle will begin November 25th.
Lucas and his family will be spending about 90% of their time in the hospital during the 6 months of initial treatment. Victor, Lucas’s father, is the sole provider for this family and will need help maintaining the household. Lucas has three other siblings; Monique age 18 attending college, Mateo age 7 in 2nd grade, and Elias age 2.
Lucas is beyond blessed to have such a strong support system. This family is grateful for all the kind individuals supporting them through this battle. They ask for prayers and any contribution possible to help Lucas fight the most frightening battle.
