My name is Lucas, and several months ago I created this GoFundMe after my kidney function rapidly declined into end-stage renal failure and I had to begin dialysis while searching for another kidney transplant.
Since then, my health has unfortunately become much more complicated.
In addition to kidney failure and dialysis, I have been experiencing a severe autoimmune flare involving systemic sclerosis/myositis overlap. The muscle weakness and other symptoms have significantly affected my mobility and independence. Things that used to be simple parts of everyday life have become difficult or impossible for me to do without help or assistive devices.
Right now, I struggle with many basic daily activities and have difficulty getting around independently. My physical limitations have made it nearly impossible for me to work and earn an income, and they have also disrupted my ability to continue school and live the independent life I had been working toward.
When I originally made this fundraiser, I hoped dialysis would simply be something I had to get through while working toward another kidney transplant. I did not expect my health and physical abilities to deteriorate the way they have.
I’m continuing to receive medical care, undergo dialysis, and work toward getting my health stable enough to move forward. I’m also still searching for a living kidney donor. I have O+ blood type, and finding a compatible living donor could completely change the course of my life.
At the same time, I need help getting through the present.
Donations to this fundraiser will help me cover everyday living expenses while I am unable to work, transportation and expenses related to medical care and dialysis, medications and other medical costs that aren’t fully covered, accessibility and assistive items that help me function more independently, and expenses associated with eventually receiving and recovering from a kidney transplant.
My goal is still to regain as much of my independence as possible, finish school, work again, and get back to building the life I was working toward before my health declined.
The support I’ve already received has meant more than I can put into words. More than 50 people have donated to me since I started this fundraiser, along with many others who have shared my story, checked on me, prayed for me, or helped me personally. That support has helped carry me through an extremely difficult period of my life.
I’m asking for help again because my situation has changed significantly since I first shared this fundraiser.
If you’re able to donate—even a small amount—it would help me tremendously right now.
And if donating isn’t possible, please consider sharing this fundraiser. A share can reach someone who may be able to help and even someone who may be willing to learn about becoming a living kidney donor.
Thank you for reading my story, supporting me, and helping me continue fighting toward better health, another kidney transplant, and the chance to regain my independence.
— Lucas
