Lucas was diagnosed with Metastatic Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare and agressive cancer, and is now in the fight of his life. This GoFundMe is intended to help us come alongside the Diaz family in prayer and financial support.
About Lucas:
Lucas just turned 15 years old and just began his freshmen year in high school. He’s vibrant, athletic, and charismatic. He loves soccer, cheers passionately for Real Madrid, and dreams of one day playing professionally. He is the glue of his family and friend group, someone who brings people together with his laughter and his heart.
His Life Changing Diagnosis:
In July 2025, Lucas was diagnosed with Metastatic Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer with only 325 cases in the U.S. each year. Before his diagnosis, he endured months of excruciating hip and leg pain. After many visits to the ER and specialists, the Diaz family received the devastating news. Since then, he has been receiving inpatient chemotherapy at the University of New Mexico Hospital every two weeks, with weekly hospital visits.
Recently, his doctors shared the news that surgery is not an option. Alternatively, Lucas will receive Proton Beam Radiation Therapy. This type of radiation is not available in New Mexico and will require travel to Phoenix, Arizona, where he will spend six weeks. Lucas will receive radiation at the Mayo Clinic Monday-Friday while continuing a rhythm of every two weeks of chemotherapy at Phoenix Children's Hospital. After the six weeks he will continue chemotherapy in Albuquerque at UNMH and will complete treatment with more radiation at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix.

- Vehicle: The urgent need for a reliable vehicle. Their 2011 Toyota Sienna has 269,000 miles and not very reliable for traveling between New Mexico and Arizona.
- Travel: Travel and housing expenses during extended stays in Phoenix.
- Medical Costs: Unforeseeable medical-related costs not covered by insurance.
- Lost Wages: Loss of income as the family prioritizes Lucas’ care and the constant travel required for his treatments.

Antes de su diagnóstico, soportó meses de un dolor insoportable en la cadera y la pierna. Después de muchas visitas a emergencias y a especialistas, la familia Díaz recibió la devastadora noticia. Desde entonces, Lucas ha estado recibiendo quimioterapia internado en el Hospital de la Universidad de Nuevo México cada dos semanas, además de visitas semanales al hospital.
Recientemente, los doctores compartieron una noticia devastadora: la cirugía no es una opción. En lugar de cirugía, Lucas recibirá Terapia de Radiación con Haz de Protones. Este tipo de tratamiento no está disponible en Nuevo México y requerirá viajar a Phoenix, Arizona, donde pasará seis semanas. Lucas recibirá radiación en la Clínica Mayo de lunes a viernes, mientras continúa cada dos semanas con quimioterapia en el Hospital de Niños de Phoenix. Después de esas seis semanas, continuará quimioterapia en Albuquerque en el UNMH y completará su tratamiento con más radiación en la Clínica Mayo en Phoenix.
