Hi everyone,

I never imagined I would be in a position where I’d need to ask for help, but today my little family went through something incredibly frightening.

Out of nowhere my beloved French Bulldog, Luca, suddenly began shaking in his back leg and struggling to walk, dragging his back legs. Within minutes he was panting heavily and crying out in agony. It was one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever witnessed.

I rushed him straight to the vet, terrified something was seriously wrong.

The vet believes Luca is suffering from several slipped/ bulging disc’s in his spine, (mid & lower) a condition common in French Bulldogs called Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). The pain he was experiencing was severe and required immediate treatment.

He was given emergency pain injections, a fentanyl patch, and has been sent home on multiple medications including gabapentin, anti-inflammatories, and muscle relaxants. He now has to remain on strict crate rest for at least six weeks while we hope his spine heals. He is currently unable to walk, dragging his back legs when he tries to stand or moves and results back lying down. Surgery could be the next step.

The first emergency visit alone has already cost over $1,000, and there will be ongoing costs for XRAYS, MRIS, medications, follow-up appointments, and recovery care. MRI’s can cost upward of $3.5 thousand dollars.

I am currently a single mum to a little baby, and this sudden emergency has put me in a very difficult financial position to be able to help my fur baby. Luca is not just a pet — he’s part of our family and has been a constant source of comfort and love.

Seeing him in that much pain was devastating, and all I want is to give him the best chance to recover and live without suffering.
