Help Luca heal from his burns

Luca, 2 years old, was admitted to Children’s Hospital on 4/13/2022 following an accident at his babysitter’s.

 

He has suffered second degree (aka partial-thickness) burns on both of his hands. These are extremely painful as the nerve endings are still intact for this type of burn.

 

Over the last two days, his hands have had to undergo bandage changes, as well as “debridement.” Meaning the blisters on his hands, fingers and wrists have had to be opened and peeled off to allow for swelling to continue without loss of perfusion to the extremities.

 

His pain is being managed with IV morphine (during bandage changes) and Tylenol.

 

We will have a series of bandage changes over time. And a long healing process as skin tends to heal tightly. Given that these burns extend over the length of his fingers, his bandages and casts will have to be set with fingers bent in order to encourage the stretching of skin in those areas.

 

We will hopefully be out of the hospital soon, but we have a long road ahead of us.

 

Luca's family will need help paying for medical bills and care, as well as a lawyer as they fight to learn what happened. The family will also have to drop to a single income to care for Luca as he heals.
