Lua Suzal is an extraordinary 8-year old girl. She dances around her living room, draws like a true artist, and performs science experiments creating all sorts of glitter slimes. She has a permanent sweet smile on her face and a quietly confident personality. She has the heart of a champion and the trophies and medals that go along with it. After years of training, she is close to achieving her dream of qualifying for the junior Olympics in swimming.
Lua’s parents have been encouraging her to swim since she was 3 years old because impact sports would not have been wise for her. A secret to many, this star athlete and intelligent young girl was born with one leg shorter than the other with plans to one day get a major surgery that would alter her life.

No matter how much her family hoped, prayed, stretched, the 3-hour long surgery with over a year recovery will take place on January 29th at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Dr. Baitner will insert a rod into her left thigh bone (femur) and use advanced technology to extend the bone over time to match the length of her right femur bone(Limb Lengthening Surgery). As a result of this extreme fix, Lua will need to keep her weight off of her fragile and short leg. Our dancer, scientist, and swimmer will be bound to a wheelchair for 6 months and will not be able to walk, be active nor place any weight on her leg for over a year. She understands, as much as an 8-year-old can, that her young dreams will have to be put on pause so that her body can catch up with her passions.
The Suzal family needs our financial and emotional support! With Lua’s fast growth, this surgery came 2 years earlier than planned. Her mom, Mariela, will be taking unpaid time off from work for at least 5-6 months to care for Lua both physically and mentally during this time — the way only a mother can. As you can imagine, this situation will put a major stress on the Suzal family so any financial contribution will make an immediate positive impact.
Weekly expenses will include: medications, food, transportation to and from the doctor, home schooling, physical therapy, and at least 6 months of art and slime supplies.
Please keep Lua and the Suzal family in your prayers as we all lift Lua up to the Lord for strength, patience, courage and a speedy recovery as well as Lua's surgeon and doctors. Help us share this link and story! We thank all of you and many blessing!
