Help Lt. Dan get back on his feet!

Lt. Dan is the precious fellow in the photo.
In September of 2023, Dan was wandering and found himself up on a railway bridge in a remote rural area in Texas. When a train came, Dan was unable to escape. He hunkered down and miraculously survived, but his two back feet were cut off, as well as part of an ear.
As he lay there bleeding out, a hero came along and got him to a vet, which is also miraculous! That vet went to work immediately and was able to save Dan’s life.
Dan was taken in by Who Rescued Who, and was blessed with an amazing foster mom who nursed him back to health. It was grueling and painful, and despite best efforts, one of Dan’s legs just didn’t heal and had to be amputated. Lt. Dan is now left with one missing back leg and the other leg is just a peg with no foot.
To give Dan the best chance at a great life, he really needs a prosthetic foot. He cannot walk on the bare peg, especially since it carries all the weight for his back end. Currently he gets a bandage every morning to pad his peg and it serves as a temporary foot. It comes off at night to help prevent his recurring pressure sores. A prosthetic would allow the freedom, stability and flexibility needed for Dan to get around. He does have a wheel chair, but a prosthetic is better for everyday use and much less cumbersome. The prosthetic will also work to get his body more aligned with the way it should be, which is important for limiting future health problems related to unnaturally altered posture, etc..
Despite all of his challenges, Lt. Dan remains a happy, sweet guy. He loves car rides, people, getting scratches, and treats. He gets himself around and has a can-do attitude. His resilience is inspiring!
This is where you come in - his rescue has covered his extensive expenses including multiple surgeries, supplies, Heartworm treatment (he is high Heartworm positive), and more. Because they do such amazing work helping so many dogs, funds for a prosthetic foot are difficult. But Dan, and his inspirational attitude, deserves to have the best chance going forward, and for that he needs a prosthetic foot.
We have begun the process with a Texas based prosthetic company and they have offered to discount their services. Even with that it is an expensive endeavor. The process of creating and fitting the prosthetic is an additional expense, as the facility is 3 hrs away from where Dan is currently residing and requires multiple trips.
Can you please help us help Lt. Dan get a prosthetic foot? He has lost his home and his people (he must’ve had them, but we were unable to find them after much searching), he has lost his back feet and part of an ear, and he has had to start life over - learning to function within his new world. And yet he is happy.
With your help, we can make his life a little easier.
Every little bit helps! Thank you for being part of his journey.
- Any funds received in excess of Dan’s prosthetic will go to Lieutenant Dan’s continuing care and medical needs or assist other dogs in need with Who Rescued Who.
