Help Loyola-Rome Classmate-Ms. Michael Taylor

Dear Rome ’69-‘70 Classmates:
Jeanne Carberry Zurkuhlen and Paul Zurkuhlen here. We hope you and your families are all well and enjoying life.

Half a century ago we went to Rome, a life-changing adventure for most of us. It was a happy and mostly carefree year that resulted in many enduring friendships. However, the intervening years have been better for some of us than others.  Our classmate and friend, Ms. Michael Taylor, needs our help.  This is a request for immediate funds for Michael. Her problems were brought on by dire health issues, no financial resources, and no support (emotional or financial) from her family. Michael lives in San Diego, where she was raised. She was a fine student at Santa Clara and Loyola, and later a responsible and loving parent who had children with serious health issues. Some of you know she lost a wonderful teen-aged daughter, Tailleur, to ovarian cancer. Michael has been divorced for some time.

Diabetes, vertigo, orthopedic/mobility problems, looking after children and an elderly parent have adversely impacted Michael’s career and ability to work for a consistent period. To date, her siblings have not provided any type of support and she does not anticipate any help from them.

Michael does not foresee any emotional or financial assistance from any family member. San Diego is an expensive area. Michael needs to stay in the area to continue her frequent Doctors' visits and maintain close relationships with her medical specialists.

Our classmate’s only income is Social Security. Working with Social Security Administration (SSA) has been a challenge. In November she will start receiving the correct SSA amount. However, from August through November she will not receive any SSA payment. When she does receive a check, her SSA will not cover her rent and modest living expenses. FYI, she is currently eligible for and receiving food stamps and also applied for Section 8 housing, however the waiting list is three to ten years. She recently moved from her mother’s home into a modest apartment on a bus line. We anticipate that gas expenses, car repairs and insurance will result in no vehicle. This will make getting to a job or doctors’ appointments problematic. She is currently looking for some type of at-home work.

Michael is proud, and naturally hates the thought that others must help out. Establishing a GoFundMe page was not her idea. I asked her permission to go in this direction. Obviously, this is a desperate situation where funds will be needed for months, at a minimum. Based on the above facts, Jackie Hurlbutt, Paul (aka Zed) and I have worked together on this method of solving an emergency.

Please make a secure donation on this website today to help this unlucky member of our amazing class of 69-70.

If you can help Michael financially with one donation or a sustained donation it would be wonderful. If that isn’t possible please keep Michael and all our classmates in your prayers. We have found that life can change in an instant. Hope to see you at our 50th reunion. We are certain that 1969-70 was the best Loyola Rome Class ever!

Thanks.
-Jeanne,  Paul, and Jackie
