This is Lowri — a bright, beautiful and happy 6-year-old girl. Lowri was born with bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss due to vestibulocochlear nerve aplasia, as well as bilateral hereditary facial palsy. Despite these challenges, she is full of joy, intelligence, and curiosity about the world.

I’ve set up this GoFundMe for my friend Tracey and her family. Lowri has been deaf since birth, and after years of hospital appointments, the family has been told that she will never hear or speak. British Sign Language (BSL) is her only means of communication, and the whole family has worked incredibly hard to learn it so they can share conversations, laughter, and everyday moments with her.

Tracey has already self-funded and completed her BSL Level 1 and 2 courses. To continue being able to support Lowri as she grows, she now needs to progress to BSL Level 3 — a two-year course costing £1,300. This is where they need a little help.

Continuing their BSL learning is essential. Without it, communication will become more difficult as Lowri’s language and needs develop, and this could make her world feel more isolating. Lowri loves connecting with everyone she meets, and having her family confidently trained in BSL is the only way she can fully share herself with them and with the wider world.

The family doesn’t see Lowri as disabled — just deaf — and they want her to live the fullest, most connected life possible. Completing this course will make a real difference to her future.
