Help Low Income Students Get Tech to Learn
Donation protected
Close the Education Inequality Gap. Give a Talented Kid a Computer.
As many of you may know, I teach at an inspiring school located in Brooklyn, NY, called Gotham Professional Arts Academy. Over the last year, the faculty, staff and students have become an extension of my family. They are dedicated to their students in a way I have never witnessed. They are tireless in their pursuit to give every student the opportunity to succeed in pursuing their dreams.
The school has closed and begun remote learning similar to most schools in NY and around the country. Many of the Gotham students come from lower income families, temporary housing and are food insecure. And, while NYC is doing its part in ensuring no child goes hungry, the need for technology to continue remote learning has fallen short for several of our Gotham students.
20 of their brightest stars are not able to continue their learning because they don't have access to the technology needed to support online learning. These kids are amazing - they are on student government, captain of the volleyball and some of the brightest in their grade. But, it's times like these that expose how the income gap can lead to educational challenges for lower income kids.
I have included Letter from Gotham Professional Arts Academy , to give you a sense of how special this school is and how these special kids need our help to keep an even playing field for education during this time of remote learning.
If you find yourself wanting to help, this gofundme will buy 20 new laptops built with the capacity for their online learning tools for these students . Each HP laptop is $250 and every little bit will help us reach this goal.
Thanks so much for your help! Let's get these kids learning :)
XO,
Sheila
