Hi, my name is Guillermo and I'm raising funds for friends and families from my hometown Acapulco. These funds will go directly to those that lost their homes and/or were severely financially affected due to the category 5 hurricane "Otis" that decimated the once beautiful city of Acapulco on October 24th and 24th of 2023.
The current situation in Acapulco is quite dire as most essential services such as electricity, communication (landlines, cell service and internet), gas stations, healthcare, potable water, critical retail (i.e. grocery stores, hardware stores, mechanics), and transportation have been completely interrupted and will take months to recover.
Sadly, criminals have also begun looting people's homes that have been left accessible due to the extensive damage created by hurricane Otis. Leaving those affected in worse state than before.
Your donation, no matter how big or small, will help people rebuild their homes, re-establish their lives and get access to basic human needs required to survive.
Thank you all for your love and support.
October 27th Update:
How am I related to the persons(s) I am raising funds for:
The funds will be evenly distributed across my blood relatives and childhood friends that are experiencing extreme financial hardship due to hurricane Otis. This includes my grandparents, mother, aunts, uncles, cousins as well as childhood friends and teachers from when I lived in Acapulco.
My plan for transferring the funds from GoFundMe to the intended recipients:
I plan on depositing the money directly to each individuals local bank account in Acapulco, Mexico.
How will the funds be spent:
Individuals will use these funds to repair/rebuild their homes that have been heavily damaged or destroyed by hurricane Otis. They may also use these funds to purchase any essential items that they have lost during the hurricane such as medicine, food, clothing. If they've lost their homes entirely, they may use these funds to seek temporary shelter while their homes are being rebuilt.
November 2nd Update:
First off, I want to express my gratitude for every single person that's reached out to me and my family, offering their support, encouragement and love. I have no words to describe how much this means to me -from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Secondly, I apologize for not updating the fundraiser in the past few days. With little sleep and constant worry, I've been tirelessly focusing on making sure my family is safe, healthy and temporarily relocated to Guadalajara since Acapulco currently is uninhabitable and we don't know when my family will be able to go back home or return back to their jobs. My grandparents are both retired and cannot afford to repair their homes with the little the government provides them. My mom, uncle and aunt are school teachers in Acapulco and they are currently receiving zero assistance from their employers not to mention they do not know if/when their schools will re-open anytime soon. Your generous donations will go a long way in helping my family get back up on their feet.
Whilst we've done a great job at raising $9500--we can't stop there. We still need your help spreading the word and hopefully reaching our new goal of $15,000. No matter how big or small, every little thing helps.
What's next? I'll be traveling to Mexico in the next to weeks to help my mom retrieve her dog Romy that's currently still in Acapulco. I'll be flying both my mom and her pup to California where I'll do my best to take care of them until they can return back to their home. The rest of my family will be staying with other family members in the city of Guadalajara.
Thank you again for your love and support. I will report back soon with more updates as they become available.
Thank you again for your continued support <3
