Help Lourdes Battle Brain Cancer

Donation protected
Friends and family have asked for a place to make donations which is why this gofundme was created. Below you'll find a recap of Lourdes' journey these last 3 years with Glioblastoma Mutiforme, brain cancer. Currently we are having to provide care 24/7 even as shes in critical care at the hospital. Due to being in hospitals and different locations for 3 months, we have exhausted our funds and are starting to have to stretch ourselves out thin, on top of all medical costs accrued throughout this journey. We appreciate and love you all.

July 19, 2016: Lourdes was admitted to the ER with signs of a possible stroke. Later that day we would find out that she has a golf size tumor in her left temporal lobe, we are rushed to Kaiser Permanentes ICU neurology center in Fontana.

July 22, 2016: Lourdes underwent brain surgery, where the surgeon and team were able to remove about 90% of the tumor matter. We were told to expect a a high 2, low 3 grade tumor.

July 27, 2016: Our nightmare was confirmed with a diagnosis of Grade 4, Glioblastoma Multiforme, terminal brain cancer. No prognosis was given, but we were advised that median life expectancy was 15 months from diagnosis.

Aug.-Oct. 2016: Standard care treatment was given. Temodar with radiation. She was also approved for a clinical trial (unknown data).

Oct. 2016 - Aug. 2018: No sign of disease, she was considered in remission at this point.

August 3, 2018: First Reoccurence - We received the unfortunate news that new growth was found in her scans. She was immediately removed from the clinical trial, and begun her 2nd round of chemo. This time she would take CCNU and Avastin intravenous.

March 13, 2019: Lourdes had fainted, ultimately hitting and puncturing her head. She was rushed to the hospital where she was later treated for the laceration on her skull. No signs of the cancer growing from the initial impact.

April 26, 2019: Second Reoccurence -  Growth is captured in her MRI scan. Old treatment is scratched, and replaced with a new chemo called Etoposide. Lourdes will not react well to the chemo and begin to lose function of her right leg.

June 28, 2019: Continued growth, she is taken off Etoposide and put on Tagrisso, quite a promising chemo with great statistics however very expensive. (A 2 week dosage costs $1,014).

July 3, 2019: Lourdes begins Tagrisso

August, 2019: Lourdes was accepted into a clinical trial, managed by Barrow Brain Institute in PHX, funded by Ivy Brain Tumor Center.

September 27th, 2019: Trial and procedures performed  between September 27th to Oct 2nd at St Josephs Hospital in PHX.

October, 2019: After Lourdes underwent her 2nd craniotomy which was successful, she began having complications unfortunately. From this hospital stay, she contracted a low grade sepsis infection and low pressure hydrocephalus. A VP shunt was implanted to help with CSF pressure.

November, 2019: Lourdes spent the month at Casa Colina, Pomona, getting acute rehab to help us care for her when she returned home. During her stay here, she contracted a few types of pneumonia's, and her shunt was mis-dialed somehow, causing severe and excessive swelling and pressure. She was rushed to Kaiser ICU and is currently being treated.

Present : Lourdes is currently at Kaisers ICU unit.  She currently has an EVD due to her shunt being removed because of possible infection. She's in critical condition, and we are hoping she will have the strength to make it through a surgery where she will be needing a new and improved shunt. Due to the swelling and pressure, she's having a hard time doing anything and waking up. Once she gets the shunt in and other issues are addressed, the hope is to get her home where she can be comfortable and surrounded by family and loved ones, as she had wished.

As a family we have chosen to not go into too much detail with public platforms, but if you would like further information please reach out.

We thank you all for your support. If any of you have any questions, or would like to get in touch with Lourdes, please don't hesitate to reach one of the girls via email or text.

Thank you all,

On behalf of Lourdes,
