LouLou is a small dachshund–terrier mix who came into our care after her owner had to move to housing that does not allow pets. My husband and I stepped in to foster her so she would not be surrendered to animal services. Within hours of bringing her home, we discovered she was in significant discomfort and struggling to urinate. We were able to get her seen the same day by a veterinarian through the Humane Society in Highlands County. An exam and X-ray confirmed her bladder is filled with stones — a condition she has had since 2023 — and surgery is necessary to relieve her pain and prevent a potentially life-threatening blockage or infection.
LouLou is now on antibiotics and pain medication, which have helped her rest more comfortably, but these only manage symptoms. The stones will continue to cause pain and complications unless they are surgically removed. Her surgery is scheduled for March 14, making support urgent right now to ensure she receives the treatment she needs and can begin a full recovery.
Donations will go directly toward LouLou’s medical care and recovery. This includes her bladder stone removal surgery, antibiotics and pain medication, follow-up visits to monitor healing, and the prescription urinary diet she will need long-term to prevent future stones and infections. She also needs grooming and nail trimming to improve hygiene and comfort during recovery. We are committed to covering as much of her care as possible, but support will help ensure she receives everything necessary to heal properly and live a healthy, pain-free life. If contributions exceed her medical expenses, any remaining funds will be used to help other rescue animals in need. Any support will make a difference for LouLou. Please consider donating or sharing her story to help her get the care she needs and give her a second chance at a happy, healthy life.
