Help Louise find treatment
Hello, my name is Warren. I created this GoFundMe to raise money for my mom, Louise Wong, she has been battling Stage 4 Lung Cancer for the past 3 years.
Most know Louise as a quirky, funny and kind individual. Those that know her would describe her as someone who brings joy and laughter wherever she goes, whether it is at work, or spending time with family. She always goes above and beyond to make sure everyone enjoys the time they spend with her.
But for me, Louise is my mom. She is a mother to my sister and I, as well as to our numerous cats. If I were to describe her, I would say the same thing; except I would call her dedicated and selfless above all else. Her passion has always been one thing, helping others and making other people's lives better, as such, my mom has been working as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 12 years and she has continued to work even through her illness as well as the through the pandemic.
Louise was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in June of 2018, even though she has never smoked in her life. By the time she was diagnosed, her cancer had already spread extensively to her ribs, spine, and brain. Despite the prognosis, Louise continued her fight with cancer through different treatments such as targeted therapies (Afatinib, Osrmertinib), and chemotherapy.
Unfortunately, Louise's condition had a turn for the worst recently. She has been in and out of the hospital several times for her shortness of breath, cough, and increasing pain from the cancer on her ribs. The treatments that has been stopping the spread of her cancer has slowly stopped working and the cancer has also spread to her lymph nodes.
In our conversation with our Oncologist, not only are we are unsure of how long her current treatment will slow the spread of cancer, we were also told that we are unable to use radiation as a treatment as her cancer is too small and too numerous for it to have a positive impact for her health. One of our options is to obtain a biopsy in order to see if she is eligible for new targeted treatments or immunotherapy. However, due to the small size of her cancer we are unable to obtain a biopsy until her cancer grows further but that would be very detrimental to her health.
Which leads us to our final option. Her Oncologist suggested that we will be able to obtain a liquid biopsy through her blood through a company in the United States called FoundationOne. The test costs $7200USD or $9000CAD not including the cost of medical treatment. We need this test within 4 weeks in order to obtain the necessary treatment for her.
My goal to raise $20000CAD to cover not only the test, but also for the medical treatment, and travel expenses. My only wish is to give back the selfless acts of kindness that she has done for her friends, patients, and her family.
