Hi, my name is Max, and I’m raising money for my dear friend, Louie Smith.
Louie is one of those people you meet once and never forget. He’s kind, humble, and always the first to show up when someone else is in need. He’s opened his home to people who had nowhere to go, given his last dollar to help someone eat, and supported countless friends through hard times — never expecting anything in return. But now, Louie is facing something no one should have to face alone.
Recently, Louie suffered a major heart attack and was rushed to UT Southwestern Hospital (Green 862). What began as shortness of breath turned out to be something far more serious. After extensive testing, doctors discovered severe blockages in his heart. They explained that stents wouldn’t work, and a bypass surgery was too dangerous — his heart is simply too weak to survive it.
Now, doctors are doing everything they can. Louie is undergoing multiple treatments, including iron drips to manage anemia and medications to help strengthen his heart. If those don’t work, the next step could be an LVAD device or even a heart transplant. It’s a scary and uncertain journey, and the emotional toll has been heavy. Louie has shed tears, missed his dog deeply, and faced the reality that life will never be quite the same.
Because of his condition, Louie can no longer work. For years, he ran his own cleaning business — a job that kept him active, connected, and independent. But now, his doctors have made it clear that he must focus on rest and healing. As a self-employed person, Louie doesn’t have the financial safety nets that many of us rely on — no disability coverage, no 401(k), and no paid leave. On top of mounting medical bills, he’s also facing the possibility of moving across the country to live with friends who can help care for him.
That’s why I’m asking for your help.
This fundraiser will go directly toward:
• Covering medical expenses not fully covered by insurance
• Helping Louie stay on top of his monthly bills while he can’t work
• Supporting his move and relocation costs to a safe, supportive environment
• Making sure he and his beloved dog have what they need during this difficult time
Louie has spent his life giving to others — now it’s time for us to give back to him. Whether you can donate $10 or $100, every bit helps. And if you’re not able to give financially, please share this page with others who may be able to help.
Louie’s heart may be weak right now, but his spirit is strong. Let’s surround him with the love, generosity, and support he’s always shown to everyone else.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping Louie in his time of need. ❤️
