Lt. Dan “Louie” is my 10-year-old munchkin cat, my little shadow, and truly one of the most important members of my family. Anyone who has ever loved a pet knows they aren’t “just animals”...they are family, companions, and constant sources of comfort.

Recently, Louie was recovering from an upper respiratory infection when something terrifying happened. He became disoriented and fell while jumping down somewhere in the house, hitting his head hard. What seemed like a simple accident quickly turned into something much more serious. Louie suffered a concussion and a hematoma and began showing signs of neurological trauma.

I rushed him to the emergency veterinary hospital, where we spent over six long, frightening hours waiting while the veterinary team ran x-rays, ultrasounds, blood work, and biopsies to understand what was happening to him.

Watching him struggle was heartbreaking.

Thankfully, Louie was able to come home, but his recovery is far from over. He is now on a strict care routine with several medications, and I am doing everything possible to help his little body heal. He will still need a follow-up CT scan to make sure there is no lasting damage, and his recovery could take up to six months.

The emergency care, medications, and upcoming scans have created a large and unexpected financial burden, but Louie has given me years of unconditional love and joy. I will do everything in my power to give him the chance to fully recover.
