Help Louie Recover After Emergency Surgery

*update posted at the end*

Hi everyone, my name is Meagan and we are raising funds to cover emergency medical care for this sweet dog Louie who we recently took in as a foster to give him a safe and loving home. Louie suddenly became critically ill and required emergency surgery to remove multiple large bladder stones late last night. He is recovering now, but the unexpected costs were overwhelming. Although Louie came to us through an informal foster situation, he has been living with us and receiving all his care and comfort here. Any support to help cover his surgery, hospitalization, and follow up care would mean so much. Thank you for helping Louie heal.

Louie's story:
A couple of months ago, I saw a Facebook post in a local group where someone needed to rehome their dog. I offered to bring him into our home because I could not bear the thought of him ending up somewhere unsafe or uncaring. We wanted to make sure he had a home filled with love, stability, and comfort while we figured out what was best for him long term.

From the moment he arrived, Louie has been one of the sweetest and most gentle dogs I have ever met. He is calm, affectionate, incredibly polite, and absolutely amazing with our toddler, Weston. Watching the two of them together has melted our hearts.

This week, Louie began showing signs of discomfort. We initially thought he had a urinary infection and immediately sought treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication. Unfortunately, instead of improving, he suddenly declined and became unable to urinate normally. He was squatting constantly, visibly straining, shaking, crying out in pain, and unable to settle. It was heartbreaking to see him in so much pain and confusion, not understanding why he could not pee. We rushed him to the emergency vet as soon as we could.

There, we learned that Louie had multiple large bladder stones blocking his ability to pass urine, which turned his situation into a life-threatening emergency. He required immediate emergency surgery, hospitalization, pain management, and overnight monitoring. We are so thankful the procedure went well and that Louie is safe and sound, recovering at our home.

This all happened so quickly, just two weeks after his neuter surgery, and it has been emotional to see him go through so much in such a short time. The sudden medical costs, especially right before the holidays, have been overwhelming.

Taking Louie in was always about giving him safety and comfort, even while figuring out his long-term future. Right now, our only focus is helping him heal. Any support you feel comfortable offering toward his medical bills and recovery would mean so much. We deeply appreciate every donation, share, and kind thought. Louie is truly one of the sweetest dogs we have ever met, and seeing him comfortable and safe feels like an enormous blessing.

With gratitude,
Meagan, Colton, Weston and Louie

Update on Louie’s Condition:
Louie’s initial surgery went well, but shortly after returning home he began declining again. He was still peeing blood, refusing food, shaking, and eventually became unable to urinate normally again. We rushed him back to the veterinary hospital, where he has now been receiving around-the-clock care, IV fluids, pain control, and close monitoring. Yesterday evening, things took an unexpected turn when the veterinary team discovered that part of his internal suture line had become infected and necrotic, which required a second emergency surgery to remove damaged tissue and reinforce his repair. Louie made it through the procedure safely and is currently stable, but he will need continued hospitalization and medical care as he heals. The medical expenses have increased far beyond what we ever anticipated, and any support toward ongoing treatment is deeply appreciated.
