On Saturday night, little Louie was seriously injured in a sudden and unprovoked pit bull attack while travelling with Daryl and myself. Thanks to quick action and emergency veterinary care, Louie is now home and beginning his recovery.

He required surgery and ongoing treatment, and as anyone who loves an animal knows, veterinary costs can escalate quickly and are expected to exceed $5,000. In addition to this, we anticipate Louie will also need support from an animal psychologist to help him feel safe again after this trauma.

While the incident has been reported, unfortunately there appears to be no practical avenue for compensation from the owner of the attacking dog.

Daryl has maintained pet insurance for Louie for over five years, with steadily increasing premiums, so it has been deeply disappointing to learn that the insurance provider has declined to cover the costs associated with this attack.

Given that Daryl has previously experienced the sudden loss of a beloved dog, this incident has caused compounded distress. Ensuring Louie receives the care and behavioural support needed to fully recover both physically and psychologically is essential, and the costs are significant.
