Meet Louie. He’s our Corgi who still acts like a puppy, full of energy, personality, and love. Louie is happiest when he’s trotting along on our daily hour-long walks, begging for treats, or curling up like a cat (yes, he really thinks he’s more feline than canine!). He isn’t just a pet; he’s family, and he’s been a central part of our lives since the day I met him. When I married my wife, Louie was part of the package, and I couldn’t have been luckier.
Earlier this year, Louie was diagnosed with Canine Acanthomatous Ameloblastoma (CAA). While this doesn’t spread to other organs, it is considered a very aggressive cancer in the jaw and mandible. Left untreated, it causes immense pain and takes away a dog’s ability to eat and live comfortably.
Since June, Louie has undergone two major surgeries, totaling about $8,800. Each time we’ve hoped it would be his last, but after his most recent surgery, we were told that a third, and hopefully final, procedure is necessary. This next surgery is called a rim surgery, where the surgeon will remove affected tissue and part of Louie’s jawbone to ensure the tumor is gone once and for all.
This surgery will cost between $7,500 and $10,000. We’ve already stretched ourselves to give Louie the best care possible, but this final hurdle is beyond what we can manage alone. That’s why we’re turning to our community, friends, and kind strangers for help.
Louie has so much life left in him. He’s young at heart, playful, and the love he brings into our lives is immeasurable. With your help, we can give him the chance at many more long walks, treats, and happy days ahead.
Any contribution, big or small, means the world to us. Even if you can’t donate, sharing Louie’s story helps more than you know.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us fight for Louie’s health and happiness.
