Help Lou Avery Recover from the Eaton Fire
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Lou Avery, and I lost my apartment and everything I own in the Eaton fire on January 8, 2025. When I saw flames from my front door, I evacuated early, with just the essentials- my cat Toby, my documents, and my medication. I thought that we would be returning the next day- my apartment was in "downtown" Altadena, surrounded by brick and concrete businesses, just across the street from the first station.
The next morning, however, I found out that the area was heavily hit by the fire. I still hoped that my apartment may have survived- it was a sturdy 1960s townhome. I spent the following hours flipping through news channels and social media outlets, and finally found footage of my apartment- completely destroyed.
I've spent the past few years building up a life for myself after losing my life and career in Canada due to the COVID pandemic. Having to start all over again is a gutting prospect, and I honestly don't know how to move forward yet. What I do know, is that I need clothes and shoes so I can continue working. Unfortunately, being trans and built like a brick house has made it extremely difficult to find clothing from the donation drives across the city. The money from this drive will be used to purchase essential items like clothes in the short-term, and to help me find housing and replace all my furniture in the next few months.
I know that many people are asking for help, and it is an incredibly painful and difficult time. I am grateful to any amount that can be donated. I still haven't been allowed into the area to take photos of the wreckage, but will update as soon as I can. In the meantime, I will share photos of the apartment to show what was lost.
Thank you for reading, and apologies for the picture formatting issues. If you would like additional verification I am more than willing to provide more info and/or photos- please reach out to me here on gofundme.
