Hi,

My name is Christie Nye, my twin sister, Lori Powell, is a single mother to three kids, a firefighter for the city of Atlanta, a paramedic for the local 479, and a foster parent that was just diagnosed with tumors on her brain. The Specialists told her the tumors were an aggressive Grade two as she did not have them a year ago and they were literally wrapped around all the nerves on the left side of her face, central nervous system and in/behind her sinus cavities. This, as you can imagine, was a surprise to all of us.

Lori underwent a serious brain surgery on November the 11th and is recovering at home with the help of family.

The specialist shared with her that due to the way the tumors have grown and wrapped themselves around the main artery to her brain and nerves in her head, they were not able to remove all of the tumors. Therefore, she will have to undergo radiation as a start and see how things go.

She is very limited on physical activity during this process as they do not want the potential of spinal fluid leaking through the brain patch. As you can imagine she is dealing with a lot of emotions, nerve pain, swelling, bruising, etc… in addition to the adjustment of the brain patch, plates and screws she now sports.

If you know my sister you know she is tough on the outside but would give you the shirt off her back. Especially in giving children a place to call home currently and over the last several years. All the children that she has fostered over the years love her and loved being in her home as she treated them as her own. Every child received the same regardless if it were love, school shopping, birthdays, Christmas, etc…

Therefore, I’m reaching out to all of you and anyone interested in making a positive difference not only in her life but the lives of the children that call her mom or momma Lori to pray about a financial donation to help offset financial burdens and praying for her and her family. She will be out of work for weeks to come not only in her firefighter/paramedic role but also in her part time role as a paramedic. Her disability insurance will not cover the tumors as they are aggressive and not malignant.

Even if you do not feel lead to donate we are in need of prayers and Gods healing hands on my sister and our family. It breaks me to see her go through this despite knowing God’s got this! It’s still a hard heart wrenching journey.
