Early in the morning on January 28, 2026, the unthinkable happened to Lori and Rick Farro—they lost their home and nearly everything they own in a devastating house fire. They barely escaped with their lives, but not without paying a terrible price. Lori is currently in the ICU/Burn Center at MedStar Washington Hospital Center with serious, life-altering injuries, including severe burns to much of her upper body. Thankfully, Rick managed to escape with only minor injuries. Heartbreakingly, three of Lori’s beloved dogs perished in the fire, with only one surviving.

While we are profoundly grateful that Lori and Rick are alive, the road to recovery is long, painful, and uncertain. Lori faces multiple surgeries, extensive rehabilitation, and a long stay in the hospital. Because their home was almost completely destroyed, they have nowhere to return to. The family is facing the immediate, overwhelming stress of medical expenses, no place to live, and the loss of most of their personal belongings.

We are raising funds to help Lori and Rick cover immediate medical expenses, long-term rehabilitation and recovery, basic living needs like temporary housing, clothing, food, and toiletries, and to eventually help them rebuild their home. Lori is an incredibly caring person who would do anything for anyone in need, whether human or canine; and Rick is a devoted husband who is absolutely devastated seeing his soulmate in pain.
