I have worked for over 33 years in the Motion Picture Industry, and I never imagined I would find myself in this situation. After the challenges of COVID and the years of strikes that hit our industry, I went through my entire savings and still lost my apartment. With nowhere else to turn, I moved in with family in Indiana for about nine months, hoping things would get better. When I returned to California, I spent five months searching for work before finally landing a job, only to be laid off again after fourteen months. Now, it has been another four months without work. I have been living in my truck for more than 2 years now. With no job, I’m now left with no way to put gas in my truck, unable to go on interviews, I have no money, and a bank account that is overdrawn. My truck, which is my only shelter, is barely operational despite putting a significant amount into repairs since I’ve been back.
I am reaching out because I need help to cover my outstanding bills and the previous expenses that have left my account overdrawn. My vehicle urgently needs repairs, and without a reliable car or a place to live, it’s impossible for me to get back to work in the movie industry. I can’t keep my work equipment in my truck while living in it, and I need a safe place to stay so I can rebuild my life and career. Every bit of support will help me move toward stability and the chance to work again; hopefully, in the field I love.
I am deeply grateful for any and all help. I know I’m not the only one going through terrible times right now—I’ve seen many friends and coworkers face similar struggles. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to me, and I appreciate any support you can give, no matter the amount.
