My sister, Lori Zetterberg, is currently facing an immense health and financial challenge, and I'm reaching out for your support. Last year, a seemingly minor accident—stepping on a piece of a shattered olive oil bottle—led to a cascading series of medical complications. Unbeknownst to her, a shard of glass remained, leading to a severe septic infection that required immediate hospitalization, surgery, and a walking boot for months.
Despite ongoing care, her diabetic condition unfortunately hampered the healing process. Following our recent trip to NYC, Lori discovered the infection had spread to the bone in her third and fourth toes. She underwent an intensive operation to combat the infection, a procedure that has had a profound impact on her ability to walk. While thankfully she did not lose a toe entirely, a significant portion of the bone was removed, making her recovery more complex and emotionally taxing.
Lori is now in a rehabilitation facility, diligently working to regain her ability to walk. The journey ahead is long, and the financial burden is crippling. As a self-employed individual with minimal insurance, Lori is facing mounting medical bills that are overwhelming. The balance from last year's hospital stay alone was $90,000, and this current, more intense hospitalization has already spanned almost three weeks.
Our family has always prided ourselves on self-reliance, but in this moment, we humbly recognize that Lori needs a community to rally around her. She hasn't been able to work for a month, and the financial strain is immense. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in helping Lori cover her astronomical medical costs and focus on her recovery without the added stress of financial ruin.
We deeply appreciate your kindness, generosity, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
