My name is Teresa Williams, a PhD student at Michigan State University. I’m fundraising to help my mom and grandma get back on their feet after becoming homeless.
There is a lot that led into their current situation. My grandfather died in 2017, leaving a giant hole in my family that was made even larger by the death of my uncle in 2018. As the years have gone on, both my mom and grandma have tried her best to keep things afloat.
However, earlier this year, the house my grandma raised two children, two grandchildren, and even now two great-grandchildren was foreclosed on. The town they live in has no affordable housing, either to rent or to own. My grandma and mom, along with their two dogs, have been constantly moving from temporary space to temporary space.
Currently, they are staying at a hotel but only have a few days left before they can no longer afford that. They desperately need to both keep themselves off the streets but also work toward a deposit for a new space. We are also looking for a space to ideally foster their two dogs until they can find a place of their own.
The fund collected here will firstly go toward keeping them and their dogs housed even temporarily and then toward a the security deposit and fees for a new place here near us.
My grandma and mom have both been through so much these past six years. I want them to have a place of their own where they can live safely, securely, and comfortably with their dogs whom they’ve care for and loved for so long.
