Support Lorenzo Valvo’s Fight Against a Life-Threatening Infection

Hello, my name is Lorenzo Valvo, and I’m reaching out during one of the most humbling and difficult moments of my life.

About six weeks ago, I noticed a small lump near my right hip. At the time, it didn’t seem serious. My wife and I thought it was just a muscle knot or some tension. We did what we could—massage, ice, long walks—hoping it would go away on its own.

But on Friday, July 25th, everything changed. The pain suddenly intensified and became unbearable. What we thought was minor turned out to be a serious internal infection that had doubled in size within just three days, developing into a severe abscess deep in my hip.

On Sunday morning, July 27th, I stepped outside and prayed—asking God for clarity and guidance. I felt an undeniable pull to go to the emergency room. I now know that decision may have saved my life.

After being admitted, I underwent a CT scan, MRI, and extensive lab work. The infection was spreading rapidly. Had I waited any longer, I could’ve gone septic—putting me at risk of losing my leg or even my life.

Doctors are now preparing to perform a procedure under local anesthesia to drain the abscess. The hope is that this minimally invasive approach will be enough to stop the infection from progressing without needing more extensive surgery.

Regardless of the culture results from the abscess, I will be going home with a PICC line to receive IV antibiotics over the course of several weeks. If the drain is successful, this will allow me to recover at home. But if the drain fails or the infection is more severe than expected, I may still need a more invasive surgery under general anesthesia to remove the infection directly.

It’s a lot to take in. And while the physical toll is real, so is the emotional and financial burden. My wife and I are both currently out of work, and I am uninsured. We never expected a medical emergency of this scale, and now we’re struggling to manage the costs of care, recovery, and basic living expenses.
