We are Andrea and Marco and we would please like your help.

We are a swiss-italian scuba diving instructor couple who have worked in the scuba diving industry for several years – always trying to find the best reefs and dives around the world. We have visited amazing places and met awesome people, but just one became the “place of our heart” …the Sudanese Red Sea. Here, where Nubian roots gave birth to a friendly, smiley population who are fully respectful of the natural world, we fell in love; in love with the people, their history, agriculture and easy going way of life. Sadly, due to the many tribes living in a big country, there has always been political problems and tremendous development difficulties; today it is completely damaged by the big civil war that reached its apex one year ago.

Andrea and I would like to introduce you to Lorenzo Segalini, a generous and full of heart Captain who dedicated his life to the country. We have spent wonderful moments both above and below the Sudanese waters with Lorenzo and his crew on his boat, the M/V Don Questo. Marco himself used to work on the boat and with Lorenzo back in the days.

Lorenzo reached Port Sudan in 1998, where he started organizing scuba diving charters around the central and northern reefs; he was the first dive charter to explore the waters of the Deep South. Lorenzo played such a huge part in the discovery of the natural beauty these waters were hiding that he has a reef named after him – Habili Lori. During this time he promoted studies and research, joining not only private associations but also the Sudanese University based in Port Sudan. In the last 26 years Lorenzo has welcomed aboard more than 3000 clients who have become friends to him and his amazing crew (who are part of his family).

Lorenzo let this family grow, demonstrating loyalty and good wages, giving their children the chance to eat and study – in some cases he even supported them until university! It is not only his crew who have been helped through Lorenzos business; all the related parts of the supply chain such as grocery stores, laundry and taxi services, travel agents, hotels, shipyards and more. All these businesses and their employees are now suffering. People who, since 2019, can’t find peace due to riots, Covid-19, coup d’etat and now the civil war. All this time Lorenzo never left Sudan and his family, he kept trying to work, kept maintaining the boat and he never turned his back on his people. He still believes in a free Sudan and keeps going to help this beautiful country.

Now it is our turn to help: the civil war does not seem to be ending anytime soon.

Maintaining Don Questo in the hope the tourists will be able to return is expensive and not easy. The crew and their families rely on financial support to feed their families and survive.

Without tourism, and the entire industry he relies on to make a living, life is impossible – leaving Lorenzo, his family and the crew struggling to survive.

We are asking everybody who reads this message to please help Lorenzo, his family, and the Don Questo to not abdicate! All funds raised will be going directly to Lorenzo who will make sure that everybody surrounding him has food and water on their tables as well as maintaine the boat to welcom back tourists hopefully soon!

Thank You Video from Don Questo Crew
