My son Lorenzo, 15yrs, has always suffered from high anxiety since he was little. It was manageable without medical intervention until about 3 yrs ago. Over these past few years, he has spiraled downhill suffering from debilitating depression and anxiety, which led to Suicidal Ideation and a Hospital stay in a Pediatric Facility. After many interventions, nothing has made a lasting improvement and he ended up completely isolating himself from the world for months. As a single mother of 3, it was extremely important to find the right placement, no matter the costs.
Lorenzo has always been a sweet, sensitive boy with an innate sense of humor, and bright intelligence, easy to make friends. Though the transition into middle school went fairly well, his anxiety began to take over. His grades fell, he drifted away from friends. Refusing to partake in therapy, we pushed through until the summer before High School when he had panic attacks at the thought of leaving the house. So I had no choice but to turn to the NYC medical system.
After exhausting the NYC system, with various teams of mental help through Mobile Crises, NYCWell, and Home therapy, a 5 week Hospital stay, he is still suffering.
Following extensive conversations with many experts and an Educational Consultants, we determined the best placement for him is a Wilderness Therapy Program. In such an environment, he will be surrounded by trained therapists 24/7 in an outside setting for 8-10 weeks. The camp I’ve chosen is in Colorado, called Open Sky. It is a holistic and mindful camp, with heavy family involvement, all of us working to help Lorenzo on his road to recovery. We will be working from here as he is working from there
This was a painful decision to make as he will be there for 8-10 weeks, possibly longer. He will gain strength, resilience, and obtain tools to deal with his emotions. Unfortunately our healthcare system does not cover Wilderness Therapy at all and the cost is enormous. I need to raise at least $50,000.00 to cover the costs which does not include extra psych evals, the private transportation, nor any medicine or extra costs. This is the price for 10 weeks.
I’m hoping you can help Lorenzo fight for his life, for his road to recovery. I’m afraid that without this treatment he will spiral downwards more and it could have a devastating ending. I know times are tough due to Covid but please consider donating as much or as little to my GoFundMe for Lorenzo’s life. I thank you and Lorenzo thanks you as well! All of our love,
Kristen, Lorenzo, Mateo, Chloé and family.
