Hello beautiful people! Thank you for taking the time to read the following. I am a first-generation college student from a low-income background and currently a full-time student at UC Davis. This academic year, I was unable to receive my financial aid due to my parents' immigration status, as I could not provide certain required documentation. Because of this, I am facing unexpected financial hardship that has made it difficult to remain enrolled and continue my education. I am pursuing a career in law with the goal of giving back to my community, especially to students and families who face barriers similar to those my family and I have faced. While my parents are my biggest supporters, they are unable to provide financial assistance, as they are focused on supporting my siblings at home. To support myself, I currently hold two on-campus jobs while attending school full-time and participating in other campus organizations. Such as, holding the Center Lead Coordinator position at the Aggie Compass Basic Needs Center, Website editor for Humanizando la Deportación, Social Chair for Las Raíces-Pre Law Association, and participating in the Cabinet of Student Leaders under the Vice Chancellor. I am a devoted student in both my education and work. I am starting this GoFundMe to help cover the essential expenses to stay enrolled in UC Davis, and reduce the financial burden so I can finish my degree and continue the work I have started and dedicated time to giving back to my community.
Any support whether through a donation or sharing my story, I would wholeheartedly appreciate. Thank you for taking the time to read.
With lots of love,
Lorena
