Help Lorena (Lori) get back on her feet.

The end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024 have not been kind to Lorena.

Back in November, she was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Her doctor advised her that a complete hystorectomy was the best option and she was confident that the disease was caught early enough that she would not require chemotherapy or radiation treatments after. The outpatient surgery was scheduled for Dec. 27. We got to St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam bright and early and she went in for the procedure. When it was time for discharge, she became light headed, which led to her being admitted for two days. Mom was then discharged to home (the picture attached is from that day and she is going to be SO happy with me for posting it LOL)

But after two days at home, she wasn't feeling well and hadn't eaten. We called an ambulance and returned to St. Mary's but this time to the Emergency Dept. They discovered that she had low blood counts and they gave her two units of blood. The surgeon wanted her transferred to St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, where she was transferred a few hours later. Later that night Mom was rushed in for a procedure because they were afraid she had internal bleeding. The procedure confirmed this. After two more procedures and a trip to the operating room, the bleeding was stopped. Mom spent a week in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and then another week in a lower acuity unit. She was then transferred to the Capstone Center for Rehab and Nursing, where she is today. She is slowly getting stronger but will remain there for a few weeks.

In addition to this medical mess, she stopped receiving a pension from her employer of over 30 years, leaving her with Social Security as her only income. (I won't get into that). Needless to say, bills have been adding up.

Although I am biased, it is true that Mom would do anything for anyone and takes up a huge spot in the hearts of family and friends. I know everyone is struggling these days but we ask if you can donate to this cause she will be eternally grateful. Be well.
