Help Lore Get Through The Summer

Donation protected
Dear friends and community,

I am Lore, a nonbinary interdisciplinary theatermaker and teaching artist living in Oakland, CA. Due to a series of recent unfortunate circumstances, I find myself at an impassé that leaves me to ask for financial support from you all. Those who know me will tell you that I am self-reliant, hard-working, and resilient. I always try to find ways of supporting myself to the best of my ability.

I am usually private when it comes to my financial circumstances, but in the last month and couple of weeks:
  • The coffee shop where I work closed one of its stores, effectively cutting my hours and giving me less income to work with.
  • I paid for major repairs on my car so that I could travel to and from work/gigs. Repairs include getting my rear bumper, tires, and windows replaced due to my car getting broken into and a recent car accident because Oakland refuses to fix our streets.
  • Depleted whatever savings and money I've had to pay for all these car expenses (around $2000) and other bills such as rent, food, utilities, medications, and Arya's food (around $1350)

All these circumstances combined mean I'm out of options until I can get my next paycheck or figure out a more reliable income stream. I currently have $100 to my name. On top of all of this, I had also planned on leaving for Blue Lake, CA for the next three weeks to train with Dell'Arte, a world-renowned interational physical theater school and center for theatre for ensemble theatermakers. I had hoped to spend these weeks deeply exploring my craft as an interdisciplinary artist, work on a theater project that I have been working on, and essentially taking a break from life to improve my mental health.

But due to the timing of all these catastrophes, I'd spent whatever money I had saved for the summer. Since I've already planned these weeks off from work and have paid tuition, getting a full refund from the school and finding more work is very unlikely - I virtually have no income for the next few weeks (which would've been fine and I had planned accordingly, but am now worried due to my lack of funds). I have applied and currently am waiting to hear from better job opportunities and plan to pursue them once I'm back. I'd hate not to attend this amazing program due to everything, because life has cursed me for some reason. Especially, I don't see my situation changing whether I stay in the Bay or not.

I hardly ask for financial support, but please help me get back on my feet? I am planning to transition into teaching and find a higher-paying gig amidst all of this. However, I am struggling to know what to do and how to survive the next few months since it is very likely I will not be able to afford rent for the month of August and most likely September. I would appreciate any support you can provide so I can at least attend the program and have wiggle room to figure out what to do in the next few months!

Your support will help cover the cost of rent, food, and monthly bills for the next couple of months!

With love,
Lore
