4 years ago, on Aug 24th, 2021, Lora Wakefield’s life was altered by tragedy.
While on vacation in Florida with his wife and young son, Lora’s son was sitting outside at a Mexican restaurant waiting to eat after a day at the beach. A man, high on drugs, was yelling and threatening the family. In a moment of courage and selflessness, Lora’s son stood up to protect his son and his family and reason with the gunman. Placing himself between the gunman and his family, he was shot 5 times and killed.
Since that day, Lora and her family have carried a grief no parent should ever have to bear. And now, after 4 long years, the man responsible is finally going to trial.
Lora and her daughters will be traveling to Florida to attend the sentencing, hoping for justice and some measure of peace. This journey is emotionally overwhelming and financially challenging. Travel expenses, time away from work, and the emotional toll of reliving this tragedy all come at a heavy cost.
Lora is an incredible woman: a gifted hairdresser, a loving mother, and a faithful woman of God whose strength and kindness have touched many lives. Even in her pain, she continues to show grace and love, but right now, she needs support.
This fundraiser is to help ease Lora’s burden during this difficult time. Donations will go directly to Lora for:
• Travel expenses to Florida
• Lodging and meals
• Lost income from missed work
• Giving her a small financial cushion so she can focus on healing and honoring her son
If you’re able to give, please know that no amount is too small. If you can’t donate, sharing this page means just as much. Every act of kindness reminds Lora that she is not walking this road alone.
Thank you for surrounding her with love, prayers, and support during this painful chapter. Your generosity helps lift this burden.
If you feel more comfortable doing so you can Venmo Lora directly @Lora-wakefield
