Help Lonzo Brown Jr. Get Medical Equipment
Donation protected
On June 1, 2016, Lonzo Brown Jr. (LB), then 27 years old, was headed home after work, without warning he encountered loose gravel on the road, causing his car to hit a brick barrel, flipping several times, and finally landing in a ditch. Thank God neighbors heard the impact and called 911. LB was trapped in his car but remained conscious with visible head injuries. He was transported to Anderson Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi, and because of the injuries he sustained, doctors felt it was necessary to immediately place him in a medically induced coma.
After doctors at Anderson Hospital did all they could, LB was airlifted to Jackson Trauma Hospital in Jackson, MS. He remained in ICU for six weeks. LB sustained life-threatening injuries, he is so blessed to be alive. His neck was broken in two places, a C-6 spinal injury caused paralysis from his chest down, multiple broken ribs, broken left index finger, and no use of his left arm or hand. He had to have a tracheostomy for five weeks, leaving him unable to speak. He could only communicate by blinking his eyes if he could hear and understand doctors and his family.
It has been almost five years since LB’s accident and after more than ten surgeries, each causing him to be hospitalized for several months, his life continues to be impacted. His aging parents have been financially and physically distressed. They both have medical issues and back problems from providing his daily care, without the necessary equipment for the past 5 years. Because LB is immobile and unable to turn himself, he has pressure ulcers (bed sores) so severe they required surgery and ongoing treatment from the Wound Center. A Hoyer Lift is needed to transfer LB from his bed to the bathtub and his wheelchair. LB has several appointments each week and is now being transported in a Toyota Camry. It is extremely difficult to get LB in and out of the car. His dad uses a wooden slide board which is unsafe and uncomfortable for LB. A Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle is ESSENTIAL for his safe transport!
WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are raising this money to get the wheelchair-accessible van to comfortably and safely transport LB to his appointments or just to take him out for a ride on a beautiful day. LB suffers from depression, which anyone in his situation would. He is a young man who would love to be able to one day drive himself. LB was involved in a horrific accident that changed the trajectory of his life, but with your help, we can make his future brighter.
On behalf of LB and his family, THANK YOU In Advance for your gift!
