Help Long Term Resident Stay in Bed-Stuy

Hi, my name is Rachel. I am fundraising for Guy, a 79-year-old man who worked at the racetrack cleaning horse stables up until 2019. Guy has lived in his rent-stabilized studio apartment in Bed-Stuy since 1980. Shortly before COVID-19 hit, he had to stop working because of increasing health issues. Currently, he is blind in one eye and has been fighting an infection in the other for six months. Because of his health issues and age, earning income is not feasible for him.

He currently owes his landlord back rent for many months and is facing ongoing court proceedings over it. I'm hoping to raise money to pay some of his back rent and ensure he has money to pay rent moving forward. $12,000 should help resolve Guy's court case and keep him in his long-time home for about another year.

His immigration status bars him from accessing the various programs available to many New Yorkers to avoid eviction. The rest of his family lives in Jamaica, so his neighborhood community is his only support system. Please help Guy raise money so he can stay in his home in Bed-Stuy and avoid adverse health consequences from moving to a shelter.
