On January 20, 2026, my father Long suffered his 2nd stroke while he was at work. We are grateful to his coworkers and employer for their quick actions in identifying his failing condition and getting him to the emergency room. There, he was checked into the ICU to start his recovery process and where he is currently being cared for by the amazing healthcare professionals around him. He suffered his 1st stroke in 2020; however, this stroke was major, severely impacting his wellbeing. Long’s brain bleeding and swelling has stabilized, consistently being monitored. He still cannot move his right side, is unable to eat and swallow, cannot speak, has contracted pneumonia in his lungs, and remains needing intensive care for his breathing and blood pressure.
Long is a husband, father, brother, and friend to many. As we know, time doesn’t stop and we all continue to age. Knowing this, he had made it a priority to continue to focus on his wife and kids and to keep living life with as little regrets as possible. He is the type of man who will invite someone to eat at his table and will never ask for something in return. Those that know him know that he is a fighter and does not like to show weakness. So, it brings so much pain to our hearts to see him in such a vulnerable state. To myself, his oldest daughter, and the 3 younger children, he showed us that life is more than the materialistic things around us and to always care for the people we hold dear.
His strong-willed wife and my mother, Kay, has been by his side through it all. Being there to wipe his tears, hold his hand, offer words of encouragement, and advocate for his health. She has and will be taking major time off work to be his main pillar of support. With both parents being out of work, finances have become a topic that is difficult to discuss as his recovery will be a slow and long process. This has catapulted the family into an area of life where we must navigate carefully and responsibly.
Current Plan as discussed with medical professionals:
Once his vitals are stable, he will be transferred out of ICU and into the Stroke Unit where he will start working with Speech, Physical, and Occupational Therapists. Based on his rate of recovery, Long will then be transferred to a rehabilitation facility closer to home where he will continue work towards regaining his quality of life. All donations will be used to ease the burden of medical expenses, any ongoing treatment, and rehabilitation (speech, PT, OT, etc.).
On behalf of my mother and children, I write this to express that we are eternally grateful to the individuals around that have offered their donations, words of encouragement, wisdom, and prayers during this time. We are unsure of what the future has to hold, but we are remaining optimistic because a family is always stronger together and that our protector will continue to fight for himself as much as he will for others. Please share this page and any amount is truly appreciated.
Thank you for your time, hold your loved ones dear, and stay blessed.
