Donation protected
UPDATE - September 16, 2020 - Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to support Gladis, Cal, and Shane! We are heartened by your words of encouragement and generosity, and know that your support is very meaningful to them. In light of approaching our original goal of $15,000, and recognizing the many needs and expenses Gladis, Cal, Shane and their families will have as they navigate this event, we have decided to increase the goal to $25,000.

We are ever so grateful to the community for supporting these amazing people in their time of need. Thank you!

PLEASE HELP LOMAKATSI STAFF WHO HAVE LOST THEIR HOMES

On September 8, 2020, the Glendower Fire/Almeda Fire swept through communities in Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, and Medford, Oregon. Three employees of Lomakatsi Restoration Project—Gladis Garcia, Callum Knights, and Shane Jimerfield—lost their homes in the firestorm.

The Lomakatsi team put together this GoFundMe page after receiving requests from community members interested in making a donation to support these three amazing people and their families as they navigate this tragedy and rebuild their lives.

As Executive Director of Lomakatsi Restoration Project, a non-profit based in Ashland, Oregon,  I have had the pleasure of knowing and working closely with Callum, Gladis and Shane, and know them to be kind, gracious people who are dedicated to making the world a better place. Professionally, and also personally, they each work tirelessly in caring for forests, watersheds and local communities through ecological restoration, wildfire protection, and advocacy for forest worker rights.

ABOUT GLADIS, CAL, & SHANE

Gladis Garcia – Gladis and her husband Trindad Alvarez, along with children Caleb (9), Isaac (14), and Ana Maria (19) lost their home in Phoenix. Gladis and her family have deep ties to the Rogue Valley, and Gladis has worked for over four years supporting health, safety, and worker rights for the Latinx forest worker community, most recently as a Promotora de Salud (Community Health Worker) at Lomakatsi.

Callum Knights
– Cal and his partner Anna Werthaiser lost their home in Talent, where they lived with their dog Milo. A Rogue Valley native, Cal was born in Merlin and has always been dedicated to serving his local community. He has worked in firefighting and fuels management, earned a B.S. in Forestry from OSU, and now serves as a Forester at Lomakatsi where he helps lead efforts toward healthier, fire-resilient forests.

Shane Jimerfield – Shane and his son Jasper lost their home in Talent. Shane serves as Lomakatsi's Program Director and has dedicated his career to biodiversity, conservation, and restoration. He has been deeply involved in the Rogue Valley community for over a decade—including bringing diverse people and organizations together to make forests healthier and communities safer.

We are ever so grateful to the community for supporting Shane, Callum and Gladis in their time of need!

 ABOUT YOUR DONATION
100% of the amount donated to this campaign will go directly to Callum, Gladis and Shane to support them and their families in this time of need, however they deem it most useful. Executive Director Marko Bey will withdraw the funds into Lomakatsi’s bank account and distribute to them.
