My mom, better known as Lolo, has always been the definition of life and joy. She is the kind of person who lights up a room the moment she walks in: always smiling, always wanting to walk, dance, stay active, and help others. She has a unique way of making people feel supported and cared for, even on the days when she is carrying her own worries. She never asks for anything in return; she simply gives, with a generosity that seems endless.

That is why it has been so heartbreaking to watch her go through this.

In May of last year (2025), my mom began experiencing discomfort on the left side of her hip. At first, it was believed to be a muscular issue related to exercise. She began physical therapy and showed some mild improvement. Shortly after, she suffered a fall at home that impacted the same area, and the pain became much worse. Even then, she kept pushing forward, just like she always does. She tried physical therapy, alternative treatments, and everything possible to avoid surgery. Unfortunately, her condition continued to deteriorate.

By July, she began having difficulty walking. By November, she needed a cane. By late December, her condition had worsened so much that she had to start using crutches. During this entire time, she avoided putting weight on her left leg because of severe hip pain. Every step was a reminder of the pain she tried to hide so she wouldn’t worry us.

On January 18th of this year, the pain became unbearable. She could no longer stand, walk, or even lie down without intense pain. We had to call an ambulance to take her to the emergency room.

Doctors discovered that she had suffered a complex fracture of her pelvis and hip socket caused by severe bone deterioration from osteoporosis. It was a devastating injury, one that threatened her mobility and her immediate future.

Because of the severity of her condition, my mom required emergency surgery. Surgeons performed an open reduction with internal fixation using reconstruction plates, acetabular structural reconstruction, bone cement placement, and a total left hip replacement.

The surgery was necessary to save her mobility, but her recovery journey is long and extremely challenging.

Due to months of immobility before surgery, my mom now has severe muscle atrophy in her left leg. She is currently only able to stand with assistance and cannot walk at all. She is undergoing intensive physical therapy to rebuild strength and mobility. Additional therapies, including hyperbaric treatment, will begin once she regains enough strength to stand more independently.

Beyond the emotional and physical impact, our family is facing an overwhelming financial challenge. My mom lives in Venezuela, where the healthcare system and economic conditions make medical treatment extremely difficult to afford. My sister and I both live outside the country, and we are doing everything we can to support her from a distance.

All medical expenses, including surgery, hospitalization, therapy, medications, and rehabilitation, have been paid out of pocket. The costs have exceeded $100,000 and continue to rise.

That is why we are asking for help. It is not easy to do this, but we are doing it for her because she deserves it. After all, she has always been there for everyone else, and now she needs us to be there for her.

Funds raised will help cover:

• Surgery and hospital expenses
• Physical therapy and rehabilitation
• Hyperbaric therapy and recovery treatments
• Medications and medical equipment
• Mobility support devices
• Medical follow-up appointments and care

Any contribution, no matter how small, makes a real difference. It helps relieve the financial burden and allows my mom to focus on what matters most: healing, rebuilding her strength, and walking again on her own.

If you are unable to donate, sharing her story is also an incredible way to help.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Thank you for standing with our family during such a difficult moment. Our greatest hope is to see her move freely again, with the same joy and energy that have always been part of who she is.
