Let's rally for Lola! Lola's journey to recovery has been a tough one, but she's a strong pupper who's fighting hard. Your support can make a huge difference in helping Lola get back on her paws. Every little bit counts! #HelpLolaHeal
Here’s is the story of Lola and Isabelle (her precious and amazing mum!):
Lola was brought to the ER after pooping bloody diarrhea on the morning of February 4th. The vets did blood work on her and the blood results came back with Lola's platelets being at 0. Everything else with her was fine this was the only thing off in any of the tests they did. This includes an X-ray, ultrasound (in case there was internal bleeding). She was put on an IV fluid due to dehydration and stayed 5 days in the ER. Gradually her platelets went from 0 to 1 the next day to 5 the day after and eventually went up to 205 after the vincristine had been administered. This is a chemotherapy drug. Essentially Lola was not doing well.
She has been home for a few weeks now and is still on a very high dose of prednisone amongst other medication to help her assimilate the meds. This is a steroid. Because of the meds she pees almost every hour, has accidents in the house, because these drugs unfortunately make her extremely thirsty and hungry. When she was first taken in to the ER she weighed 19.5kg and she went down to about 15kg.
Isabelle slowly trying to get her weight back up, and it's proven to be difficult since the meds also speed up her metabolism.
The nightmare started on January 15th when Isa saw her vet and tried to advocate for Lola as there seems to have been some adverse events in xolos and vaccines which worried her. She was advised that the benefits outweigh the risk the typical response everyone gets. During all of this, we spoke with multiple vets who told us the probable cause of ITP in Lola was due to her recent vaccines. This was confirmed by 3 vets including the vet who administered it.
Lola has biweekly vet visits to monitor and have blood work done to ensure she’s on the right path for recovery. Isabelle feels incredibly bad and does not like asking for help. But I feel like we dog lovers and Xolo family should step up and help her.
The vet bills are just adding up, not even counting the unplanned visits when Lola has ITP crisis like today. Let me tell you it is very expensive. I know and realize it is a tough time for lots of us but every dollar counts! We need to help Lola continue fighting ITP!
