Help Lola hear again!

Some of you may remember back in June when I posted those awful pictures of the ear infection Lola was battling (see photos). After two ER visits, pediatrician & two ENT’s, we weren’t getting anywhere. Although, by the second doctor, they were aware it was more than an ear infection but apparently momma was “overreacting”. Cultures had shown that it was a case of Staph and god knows what else, they are tossing up the idea of it may have being bacterial meningitis as well now. Any who, I kept pushing for more answers & more help because I was concerned about her losing her hearing. Numerous different antibiotics later.. fast forward to November, Lola was having her five year check up done. The nurse went to do her hearing test. Left ear, all good. She went to check the right ear and Lola says “but I can’t hear out of that ear mom”. I think my heart fell into my stomach. So back to the ENT for them to confirm she has about 80% hearing loss in her right ear. So in a matter of 4 months perfect to almost no hearing. As you can only imagine how upset I am over this, all things point to the “ear infection”. Sadly, we were not getting anywhere once again locally so now we are seeing a specialist at Ochsner’s in New Orleans. Unfortunately, her ear is now being considered a “dead ear”, complete non-functioning according to the most recent procedures. We attempted 10 days of steroids in hopes of regaining some hearing to no avail. We had an MRI done to rule out Ossification and or a tumor. Results came back clear. Sadly, we are at the end of hope that she will ever regain hearing. At this point there is only one option. Lola needs a Cochlear Ear Implant. Unfortunately, even the best insurance companies refuse to pay for unilateral ear implants. They believe that if she has one good ear, that’s good enough right? Well let’s just say we don’t do the implant and god forbid something happens to Lola’s left ear. She could be completely deaf for the rest of her life. There is a specific time frame of when she will need to have this implant done before she will become non-implantable. Meaning the nerves will die out and the impant will be null and void. With insurance not paying, we are looking at $40k-$100k plus in surgery cost for one ear. Obviously, that is unattainable for a single mother. We are traveling an hour and a half for appointments & having to take off of work for so many days is putting a severe hardship on life. This is only the beginning, so I am hoping to set up this Go Fund Me in attempt to relieve some of the stress of coming up with such an ungodly amount of money in such a short time. Even if you can’t donate, a share and a prayer would mean so much to us. Thank you ❤️
