Let’s Reunite a Loved One: Lola Editha's Journey to Finding Home
It's hard to believe it's been almost a year since Lola Editha went missing. The search for this loving grandmother and mother was a painful and uncertain time for her family. But thanks to the tireless efforts of Filipino volunteers and the community, we're thrilled to share that Lola Editha was found alive in February 2026 at a Brooklyn hospital!
Lola Editha, a 78-year-old grandma with dementia, was last seen in March 2025 at Elmhurst Hospital by a Filipina nurse named Baby. She reached out to me for help. We went to the shelter where she said she stayed, but unfortunately, we were unable to find her there. Her son Nelson and daughter Jen were in touch with me since her disappearance in 2025, and this left her family and friends in a desperate search for answers. Her pictures were posted in my group, Pinoys of New York, in hopes that someone might recognize or see her. With God's grace, she was later found by another Filipino nurse named Peter in Brooklyn Hospital on February 25, 2026. Despite the challenges and setbacks, they never gave up hope.
"We're overwhelmed with joy and gratitude to have Lola Editha found alive," says her family. "However, her journey isn't over yet. She needs our support to go back to the Philippines and rebuild her life."
Lola Editha's family's main goal is to bring her back to the Philippines, to her hometown in Cagayan de Oro in Mindanao. With flight travel, daily living, and medical costs mounting, and the recent passing of her son last January, her family is seeking help to cover these unexpected bills. The hospital will only give her until Friday this week until they discharge her, and she will be brought back to the shelter again. If this happens, the same scenario can happen; she might go in and out again and might get lost eventually wandering the streets. As advised by the social worker, she can't travel alone and needs a companion to fly due to her condition. She needs a 24/7 companion. She does not have family here in New York.
Your contribution will go directly towards:
- Travel airfare for her and her companion, and medical and accommodation costs to go back to the Philippines
- Everyday living expenses to start her journey back home.
Every donation brings Lola Editha one step closer to healing and rebuilding her life. Let's come together to celebrate her miraculous return and support her on this journey.
Goal: $6000
