Help Us Bring STUD to Life!

Our Story

Hi, thank you for visiting our fundraising page! We are Lokky, Samantha, Nathaniel and Ru – this year master graduates of Drama Studio London 2-year program, co-creators of Flip Flop Theatre Collective and co-writers and producers of STUD.

STUD is our passion project. We started developing it last year. After countless hours of discussions, numerous drafts, and rehearsals, we had a work-in-progress sharing at school this May.

About STUD: STUD is a 60-minute dark comedy play, where a nation’s survival hangs on ‘five-a-day’. Set in a post-war dystopic matriarchy within a state-controlled all-male facility, the story follows three men whose lives are upended by the arrival of a female government official.

Audience feedback was encouraging. All nine respondents rated 5/5 to ‘Would you recommend others to watch this play?’, and comments included:
  • ‘I really loved the originality of the story!’
  • ‘A compelling and nuanced narrative.’
  • ‘Makes me think of what’s happening in the world now.’
We are thrilled that STUD has been accepted to Voila! Theatre Festival 2025, performing on 17 November 9pm at Theatro Technis, London NW1 1TT, marking its public premiere!

Why We Need Your Support

We believe in the relevance of STUD to today’s society and that it deserves to be shared. We also stand behind the Professionally Made Professionally Paid campaign, which advocates fair pay for artists*.

Each of us has invested £25,000 through savings, student loans, and part-time work to cover our master’s tuition. One of us is also caring for a six-month-old while pursuing this project. Producing STUD professionally will help launch our careers.

We applied to the Voila! Festival to align with Arts Council England’s eight-week decision window for funding after our July graduation. One of us has experience helping friends achieve three successful applications.

Unfortunately, the application portal has been down since 23 July**, and other funding options are unavailable within our timeline. While we understand that applying does not guarantee success, we are saddened to have lost the opportunity to try. That is why we are sharing our story and funding preparation here.

Alongside potential income of £650 from our 70% box office split (based on a 60% ticket sales target), Your Support Will Help Us:
  • Sustain the livelihoods of four actors at national minimum wage for 50 hours of rehearsal and performance, and one stage manager for 10 hours of preparation and show operation (£2,565)
  • Provide props and costumes to elevate the performance (£150)
  • Support press, marketing, and production coverage (£295)
  • Cover Voila! registration, public liability insurance and GoFundMe fee (£293)
Due to family responsibilities in her home country, we are collaborating with a new actor to take on Samantha’s character.

Join Us

Building on audience feedback, we are refining the script and are excited to be premiering STUD in just 2.5 months. To thank our supporters, we will be listing all donors in our program unless you prefer to remain anonymous. Thank you for being part of our journey into the professional industry. If you cannot contribute financially, sharing our story is just as powerful in helping us reach this milestone!

With heartfelt thanks,
Lokky, Samantha, Nathaniel and Ru
