I’m starting this to support my sister Megan and her beloved dog, Loki, following his recent cancer diagnosis.
A couple weeks ago Megan noticed Loki, an otherwise happy and healthy boy, began limping one morning. After having x-rays completed Megan was informed of the devastating news that Loki appeared to have osteosarcoma, an aggressive and painful form of bone cancer, in his right shoulder and would only have a few months to live without treatment.
Thankfully, further testing has shown that the cancer has not yet metastasized to Loki’s lungs or elsewhere, so he is considered a good candidate for amputation followed by chemotherapy. While overwhelming to process, dogs adapt very well after amputation and Loki’s veterinary team has recommended this treatment plan as the best path forward to alleviate his pain and give him the best quality of life for whatever amount of time we are lucky to have with him. Loki will be heading in for his amputation surgery tomorrow morning.
If you know Megan, you know how much Loki means to her. She is doing everything she can to give him the best care and prepare for this next phase. The costs of testing, medications, ongoing vet visits, surgery, chemotherapy, and recovery care have been significant and unexpected, and only adds to the stress she’s carrying. I created this in hopes of easing some of Megan’s burden so she can focus on Loki.
If you’re able to contribute, it truly means the world, and if not, keeping Loki and Megan in your thoughts goes a long way too!
Thank you for your support and for keeping Loki in your thoughts as he heads into surgery and recovery ❤️
